What a Beauty!

Yesterday evenings ride was one of the most beautiful on record. There was little to no wind and the speed was nice and easy.  Jared came along and brought his bike.  He did some warm up laps with his proud dad and then took some pictures while we were out.  I liked this one the best.  Enjoy!

The bounder!!

Today, on my run, as I neared the dead end of the road, I looked up to see a set of eyes peering at me over the lower board of the fence.  It was funny, as I got closer, to see the eyes get bigger and then a large black and furry cat jump and run for it.
The miniature goats that were in the field at the time, followed the cat's lead creating a small stampede of goats.  It totally made my day!  I kept laughing the whole way back to the house:-)

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Many of you are like me in that we have come to love the sushi places popping up everywhere.  There are so many cool and tasty things to eat.  Sushi is, indeed, one of my favorite foods...next to Thai...of course.
So, when I was surfing around on Netflix yesterday after the ride, a nice little documentary plopped in my son and I's lap.  "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" is the name of it.  My son doesn't watch these sorts of shows very often, but he seemed intrigued about the 80+ year old who charges almost 300 dollars per meal at his place in Japan.  As we started watching, popcorn in hand, I couldn't help but think how much I hated the taste of it.

Sukiyabashi Jiro
This man can make some truly magnificent food with none of the crap that we Americans place on our own sushi.  Jiro is an icon.  He has spent his whole life mastering the art of sushi.  And, to his credit, still thinks he has a long way to go.  Japan has him recognized as a living national treasure.  This documentary is not just about cooking, or the lack of, but about life and what one must do in order to achieve greatness.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.  Give it a try.  You will come away awe-inspired!

August Mileage

This has been another good month mileage wise and I am on track for my yearly goal.  There have been some events last month that I have done well at, but ultimately think they held me back a little with my normal mileage.  I ended up logging in 1034 miles and this includes the low week last week for recovery.  I only ran 51 miles and I need to start back up on that as I generally felt worse on rides after low running weeks.  I don't know why.  It could be nothing, but It really did seem like I rode worse when I had a low running week.
So, this month, I plan on similar mileage on the bike at 250+ a week and I will try to hit 15 miles a week running.  This doesn't seem like a lot, but time is never on my side.  I am also planning to do a double century toward the beginning of October so I will need to watch how I do my workouts. My brother, Joe, is trying to help me plan.  It is difficult, I'm sure:-). Thank you, Joe!!
One more goal that I forgot to mention on write up is that of finishing "Snow Crash" by Neil Stephenson.

It's tough when you have so many evening things to do with your son. But, going to bed a little early to read is not a bad thing.
So far, so good:-)

YES!!!

The rose that was completely defoliated minus a few leaves a month ago has completely recovered and is blooming like crazy.  Awesome!  That's all there is to say about it...
